Weekend Update: What To Do!

It’s Friday and that means it’s time to check out what’s going on in Boise this weekend. One of the reasons why we love being a part of this amazing community is because you can always find something to do. It doesn’t matter which season it is, we know how to have a good time in Boise and always have plenty of options.

This weekend is the 67th annual Ski Swap at the Idaho Expo Center in Garden City. This event is one that Drew is particularly excited about because skiing has been a passion of his since he was a child. For those that don’t know, the Ski Swap is a three-day event, Friday through Sunday, where people sell both new and used ski and snowboard gear with a portion of the proceeds going to the Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation. On Friday it will cost $5, Saturday is $3 and on Sunday if you bring a canned food donation your entry is free, otherwise it will be $3.

The Ski Swap is a great place to find affordable ski and snowboard equipment if you want to enjoy the slops but are on a budget. It’s also a great place to get expert advice and information on what to buy if you’re just getting started with one of the most exciting hobbies around! Most, if not all, of the volunteers are experienced skiers / snowboarders that are there to help you. Drew will be there on Friday looking for some new ski pants, gloves and a helmet.

Ballet Idaho while be showing their program NewDance at the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This program is part of Ballet Idaho’s contemporary studio series in which the dancers and local choreographers present new choreography in an intimate, 200-seat, setting. Tickets for these shows range from $20 to $25 and we’re sure you will get your moneys worth at these shows!

On Friday from 5-9 pm and Saturday from 10 am-4 pm in Nampa the Craft and Chocolate Affaire is a great way to kick off the holiday season! Supporting local crafters and artisans is definitely something we can get behind. With over 90 vendors, you’re sure to find something for everyone on your holiday shopping list! The best part of this event is that it’s free, if you don’t buy anything that is, so it’s a cheap option. It will be at the Nampa Civic Center on Third Street.

Saturday is the last day to check out the World Center for Birds of Prey Fall Flights where you can experience the majesty of raptors in free flight. This would be another great option for families as it is not only exciting for children but an educational experience as well. Learning about our native birds of prey is something those of us that grew up in Boise remember well. The World Center for Birds of Prey is one of our favorite attractions in Boise and is located in South Boise at 5668 W. Flying Hawk Lane.

If you are a parade lover, Saturday is the 2017 Veterans Day Parade at the Idaho State Capitol Building. It starts at 9:15 am and will be honoring the men and women who have served our great country. There will be joint military force vehicles and aircraft for the whole family to enjoy. This is another free option with plenty of entertainment value for everyone.

On Saturday night the 13th Annual Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival National Premier will be showing at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Boise. This event is a celebration of the human-powered experience and a gathering place for the community. The Winter Wildlands Alliance works tirelessly to protect and preserve our winter wildlands and a quality human-powered snowsports experience on public lands through education, outreach and advocacy. There will be raffle items and a pre-party at The North Face store in Boise from 4-6 pm.

With so many options this weekend we’re not sure where to start! It can be hard to plan out your weekend when there are so many different activities to choose from. We barely even scratched the surface of everything Boise has to offer this weekend, you can find more events and activities for all ages on the BoiseWeekly events calendar! No matter what you do, we hope you have a great weekend.
